General Meeting

We held a general meeting on 19th March, in which 18 members attended to discuss the future of the Upper Valley Womens Group.

For some time the management group has been diminishing for various reasons e.g. work, family commitments, health issues.  This obviously has affected those left on the Committee and members of the group. Having recognised the need for more volunteers, this meeting was arranged to discuss and decide how the Upper Valley Women's Group should move forward.

The discussion began by focusing on the positives of the group.  One member wished to thank the group for all the support she received over the past year, another added that although it was a bit 'scary' when she first walked in to the drop-in, she had felt welcome and settled after a few minutes.  She has since become really involved in volunteering at the drop-in.  Another member said how she appreciated the social aspect of the group as she forgot about her own issues when she was there.  These comments reflected the generally held view that the UVWG was a very welcoming group, and it offered friendship and a place where one did not feel judged.

The main points after a great discussion, were that we needed a time of consolidation in the group until the AGM in June.  During the next week until then we are continuing with the weekly Thursday drop-in, and the monthly Saturday coffee mornings.  We would continue with the regular activities and events, and hopefully get more women to volunteeer to get involved in any way they felt the could.

For the moment, we are unable to offer a creche, advice & guidance or counselling as a service, but are able to offer support and a listening ear to women.  We also want to enjoy times with other women in our area, over a cuppa and biscuits!! & we all enjoy a good laugh!!

As Chair, I would like to say a 'BIG' thank you to all the management group, members, and every woman who has worked so hard to keep the group going. Any members wanting to join the committee should come to the AGM in June, and any women who would like to get involved in any way, should come along and let us know.

We welcome any women to come along and have a chat, and get to know others in a relaxed, friendly atmoshphere.

We look forward to the future of the Upper Valley Women's Group - so Watch this Space!!
